If theater is food, FEU Theater Guild’s Karne is a rich buffet—heavy, messy, unforgettable.

For FTG’s 91st season, Dudz Teraña’s Karne doesn’t just borrow from Roald Dahl’s Lamb to the Slaughter—it strips it down, wraps it in Bisaya, Tagalog, and English, and sets it in a cooking pot simmering with rural Filipino life during dark years in Philippine history. There’s sweat, laughter, dread, and moments of sharp, gut-pulling truth.


(a) Immersive Theater at Its Best

The moment you step inside the auditorium, you are already in Lubotan, Zamboanguita. The theater is no longer just a stage—it is the town itself, the house, the backyard, the party table and kitchen where secrets burn hotter than the stove. The smell of cooking fills the air. Pots clatter. Voices carry from every direction.

You don’t just watch Karne. You live in it.

(b) Visayan Dialogue That Rings True

One of the production’s bravest choices is the heavy use of Bisaya, spoken not by native Visayans but by a cast of students from different regions of the country. And yet—astonishingly—it works.

Each actor shapes the language into something personal: one rolling his R’s with raw energy, another softening vowels into tenderness, another finding jagged edges to fit moments of anger.

The result? Authenticity without caricature. Respect without flattening. Emotion shines through the dialect, allowing the audience to feel first and translate later.

At the heart of the story are Mary and Police Captain Patrick Patrosa, an ordinary couple whose quiet dinner in the barangay of Lutoban quickly unravels into a chaotic yet poignant reflection on friendships, expectations, and the fragile ties that bind relationships and the entire community.

Supporting the couple are close friends Dante, Ellen, and Maloi, Patrick’s colleagues Lieutenant Elnar, Patrolman Enopia, and Patrolman Credo, the affectionate generational tandem of Mrs. Poblacion and Estong/Estang, and the lively market vendor Samuel. Together, they highlight the personal and collective struggles affecting the entire barangay.
