MANILA, Philippines — With the recent conclusions of both Red Bull Dance Your Style’s Manila and Cebu Qualifiers, the competition is only starting to heat up! The two qualifiers showcased the incredible talent and diversity of dancers in the country. With the next performances being more electrifying than the last, the participants from various backgrounds brought their A-game and battled it out to earn a coveted spot to the National Finals.

Red Bull Dance Your Style in Cebu Qualifiers

The Cebu Qualifiers took place last July 15. Having taken place at Trademark Cebu, Red Bull Dance Your Style found its first four finalists to compete in the highly-anticipated National Finals. Along with Baby Titan, the eventual winner of the Regional Qualifiers, the other three spots were given to Nemesis, Taw, and JPY.

Red Bull Dance Your Style Manila Qualifiers

The following week, the Manila Qualifiers at URBN QC proved to be an epic battle of dance talent, and JXYB – Dhztine Bernardino emerged as the victor, rising above the fierce competition to secure his spot in the National Finals of Red Bull Dance Your Style. The final three remaining slots for National Finals were given to contestants Darktruth, Luigi, and Keycee.

With the Top 8 from the two regional qualifiers complete, only the remaining half is left for the National Finals, set to take place on September 2, 2023 at 5th Avenue, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. The other half of the Top 16 will be Wildcard picks.

To be able to represent the country is something all finalists consider a big honor, since it showcases not just Filipino talent but also the Philippines as a place filled with unique culture, traditions, styles, and techniques.

According to dance consultant Lema Diaz: “Filipinos are very expressive, and that translates very well into our dancing culture. Whoever gets the chance to be the country’s representative to the World Finals, they have a very big torch to carry. They carry not just their personal aspirations but also the collective dreams and aspirations of their fellow Filipinos. Our dancing culture is deeply rooted in our history, culture, and values, and it serves as a powerful means of storytelling and connection.”

As Red Bull Dance Your Style’s National Finals is fast approaching, the stakes are higher than ever for the finalists to give it their all and earn the coveted title of being the Philippines’ representative on the global stage. Whoever emerges victorious in the National Finals will have the incredible opportunity to secure their slot in Germany, where they will compete with dancers from around the world in Red Bull Dance Your Style’s World Finals.

• I plan to train twice how I train regularly. I’m planning to train like an athlete to compete in an international sports event. It will definitely help me to work on my body, endurance and skills. I also am going to create as many moves, sets, or even tricks that would help me have an edge on my fellow battlers. I also want to enjoy and entertain the crowd. But definitely will put God first all throughout the process and the performance.

• My love for dance is in general, and whatever experience comes whether I win or not I welcome it with an open heart. However, I’ve developed a mental struggle with it over the years, especially with my mental illness. It’s been a year since I was consistent in training physically. With this battle coming, I aim to bring back my consistency in body, mind, and soul. I aim to push myself into connecting with others in contrast to my shy attitude, having dance exchanges with people in my community, and keep in mind that whatever happens, to always be present. I am not the best dancer, nor am I competitive. I always have these thoughts of self doubt and judgment. But all I am sure about is that my genuine love for dance has brought me this far, into this moment right now, being a part of the top 16 of Red Bull Dance Your Style.

• To continue sharing, learning, and connecting. But most of all, I want to give importance to how I can contribute to my dance community with this achievement. What are you planning to do differently for Red Bull Dance Your Style as opposed to your regular performances? (Preparation/Approach/Etc.))

• The style I will make in red bull dance your style is my own style, PAVLOSLOCK.

Supposedly, if you take home the crown and prove that you are the best dancer in the world, what’s next for you?

• I still have a lot of plans in case I win or lose at red bull dance your style. Dancing is broad and I am ready to explore other places and cultures that exist in different countries that are united because of dancing. and if I win I intend to help and contribute to the dance community here in the Philippines.

Q&A:

What got you into dancing?

• My super supportive parents!! My dad used to be a television dancer and my mom a PE teacher. They let me join different workshops when I was young – dancing, singing, acting and other stuff. Until I was partnered with one of my dad’s colleagues’ son to do dancesports which started my professional dancing career. They’re my first dance teachers, my coaches, talent managers.

What awards/honors/accolades have you received as a dancer?

• Won medals during my 9-year stint as a dancesport athlete both locally and internationally
• Was given the mayor’s special award during Cebu’s Charter Day celebration last 2005 for winning and representing Cebu, Phils in the International Children’s Games in TH.
• Won multiple openstyle and waacking battles both locally and internationally
• As a teacher:
• Trained kids in urban and rural barangays in Cebu that are already national and international winners <3
• My waacking students that have improved a lot and are continuously exploring and loving the style

What are you planning to do differently for Red Bull Dance Your Style as opposed to your regular performances? (Preparation/Approach/Etc.))

• I’d like to show everyone how waacking can be done in different pop music and make everyone, even non-dancers, relate to whatever I do and make them understand the intention of the music and movement. But, still grace under pressure. 🙂

Supposedly, if you take home the crown and prove that you are the best dancer in the world, what’s next for you?

• I’d continue to train, learn and share my love for dance to my colleagues and students. My ultimate goal is to actually mentor more dancers and see more people fall in love with “dancing”. (Ang bigat ng best dancer in the world. Lol! “Best” is defined by yourself naman so yeah. Please delete this part. Hahaha)
