CEBU CITY, Philippines — Cebuano rock band Dymphna marks the tenth anniversary release of their seminal 2015 album Megiddo by releasing the collection for the first time on streaming platforms on January 24, 2025.

Megiddo was first released in 2015 at the height of Dymphna’s rising popularity in the local rock circuit in their hometown of Cebu City. “There wasn’t a plan to begin with,” recalls vocalist Carlo Mesina about the original release. “We had material stuck in the studio for years and figured that it was high time to put the record out there.”

“There were also no expectations,” he adds. “We always had this punk rock mindset to do whatever we want regardless of what the end results would be.”

Shortly after the release, the band moved to Manila, spending a few years in the capital to seek a wider audience and connect with peers in the music industry until most members eventually decided to return to Cebu.

“Everyone kind of steered towards their personal lives most especially during the pandemic,” said Mesina. In the years that followed, Mesina himself recorded and released a solo album called Peculiar Assemblage, channeling his struggles with and eventual triumph over health concerns.

As the tenth anniversary of Megiddo approached, the band set in motion a plan to finally release it to streaming. Aside from the celebration of the milestone, the decision was made also as a nod to the album’s producer and a personal friend of the band, Brian Sacro, who had passed away in the years since the album’s original release.

In its current form, Dymphna retains its 2015 lineup of Mesina on vocals, Simeon Noval and BJ Pangilinan on guitars, Michael Javier on bass, and Miguel Matutino on drums.

On the future of Dymphna, Mesina adds that “not all of the storms are in the forecast and some things are better off under wraps for the time being.” That said, fans can definitely expect more from the band in due time.
