ARTISTIC DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE
The Merriam Webster Dictionary traces REVOLT’s origin from the Latin word revolvere which means to revolve, to roll back. In the early days, it referred to the movement of a celestial body in orbit, or a progressive motion of a body around an axis, or a completion of a course, suggesting regularity of motion, or a predictable return to an original position.
The word eventually evolved into a sharply different meaning, to rebel, a sudden radical, or complete transformation, from the idea of reversal of direction, implicit in the Latin verb.
For Tanghalang Pilipino (TP)’s 38th Theater Season, we are taking the liberty of using REVOLT, both in its radical meaning, to rebel for change or transformation, and the original meaning, to roll back, or the reversal to a prior bond of loyalty, of LOVE.
TP is taking REVOLT to a literal reversal of its spelling into TLOVER, to highlight the four-letter word LOVE, which is the original position and mission of our theater company.
TP will continue to REVOLT against existing evil forces that have destroyed, and are continuously destroying the innate HUMAN GOODNESS, COMPASSION, and LOVE for fellow human beings.
TP will continue to REVOLT for HUMAN RIGHTS, JUSTICE, LOVE and PEACE in our country and the world.
We thus enjoin fellow artists, art educators, cultural workers, and all our patrons and supporters to unite in spearheading a sustained movement towards genuine NATIONAL UNITY and a call for PEACE and GLOBAL UNDERSTANDING.
Please be one with us and support our 38th Theater Season (2024-2025)

KISAPMATA
Based on the crime report “The House on Zapote Street” by National Artist for Literature Nick Joaquin and film by Mike De Leon.
SYNOPSIS
Tanghalang Pilipino’s KISAPMATA is a theatrical adaptation of the film by Mike de Leon, considered one of the best works in Philippine cinematic history, which is based on National Artist Nick Joaquin’s crime report titled “The House on Zapote Street.”
Once upon a time, a retired policeman, his wife, and his daughter, lived inside a house in Zapote Street – A haven of domestic bliss, a home of love and order, and a portrait of the perfect Filipino family. Until one day, the daughter falls in love with a man. Suddenly, the home is under threat. The world is not safe. The Filipino family must be defended, at all costs. Tatay knows best. Trust in Tatay. Trust no one else.
KISAPMATA invites audiences to witness the unraveling of a “perfect” Filipino family on stage, brought to life by the Tanghalang Pilipino Actors Company. Experience the tension and drama as love and fear collide within the confines of a seemingly idyllic household.
*The play is R-16. Only viewers who are 16 years old and above can be admitted. An “R-16” classification advises viewers, parents, and supervising adults that the film may contain any of the elements that may not be suitable for children below 16 years of age
