The Summit is being co-presented by Microsoft, C&amp;E Educational Solutions, UP College of Education, the Center for Integrated STEM Education and Pilipinas Shell Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>The Summit envisions to provide a platform for cross-sectoral dialogue and collaboration among government, education, industry stakeholders in order to synergize their skills with the needs of both local and global communities towards building a STEM(Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)ready 21st century society.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe welcome, therefore, the involvement of the DTI, DepEd and the DOST in this groundbreaking Summit, including the support of the Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Region.The participation of government underscores their critical role in mobilizing a unified front and gaining an influential voice in putting STEM at the forefront of our national development agenda,\u201d stated by Lilibeth Aristorenas. Executive Director of Unilab Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>With the theme, \u201cStrengthening STEM Through Global Crossvergence\u201d the Summit will be held from November 21-24, 2019 at the Shangri-La\u2019s Mactan Resort in Cebu, Philippines.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Summit Highlights<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Leading the elite roster of speakers in various fields and disciplines of STEM from Asia, Europe and U.S. are: <strong>Dr. Steve Swanson<\/strong>, former NASA astronaut and ISS Commander; <strong>Dr. Lance Bush<\/strong>, President &amp; CEO of the Challenger Center for Space Science Education; <strong>Ms. Victoria Levin<\/strong>, Senior Economist of the World Bank; <strong>Dr. Stephen Pruitt<\/strong>, Lead Convenor of the Next Generation Science Standards and <strong>Ms. Lisa Benete<\/strong>, of the UNESCO Almaty Cluster Office.<\/p>\n<p>Educators, <strong>Dr. Vijay Kumar <\/strong>of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology;<strong>Dr. Manabu Sumida<\/strong> of Japan Society for Science Education and <strong>Mr. Daniel Rouan,<\/strong> President of La main \u00e0 la p\u00e2te Foundation and a member of the French Academy of Sciences will add depth to the roster of speakers as they discuss their own initiatives in STEM education innovation.<\/p>\n<p>With over 300 high-level STEM representatives from the Philippines and over ten countries in Asia expected to attend this groundbreaking event, the Summit hopes to lay the foundation for building a community of STEM champions who will work together towards advancing STEM Education and developing a STEM literate workforce who can navigate through the increasingly high tech, digital and connected work environment of the future. The Summit also hopes to develop more scientists, engineers, mathematicians, inventors, and leaders who will drive technological innovations and sustainable solutions for our rapidly changing world.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Launch of the STEM Leadership Alliance-PH<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Aristorenas further announced, \u201cThe Summit presents an imperative for a strategic partnership among schools, educators, business,and community to share ideas and resources in aligning workforce needs with educational preparation and creating a culture of innovation.Hence, the Summit will continue the impetus to create the Philippine Affiliate of the US-based STEM Leadership Alliance which has contributed to the White House Strategic Plan for STEM Education.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The end goal of the Summit is to make the formation of the STEM Leadership Alliance \u2013 Philippine Af\ufb01liate (SLA-PH) a broad coalition of industry leaders, educators, government, development partners, non-pro\ufb01t organizations and corporate foundations committed to help strengthen STEM education in the Philippines. The coalition believes that STEM is critical in preparing today\u2019s learners for the work of the future and in nurturing the next generation scientists and innovators who will address societal problems and contribute to the economic development and poverty alleviation of the country.<\/p>\n<p>The formation of the alliance was spearheaded in the U.S. by the major organizations responsible for guiding learning standards and supporting teacher development in each of the STEM \ufb01elds. These include the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA), the National Council of Teachers of Math (NCTM), the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), the International Technology in Engineering Education Association (ITEEA), and the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE).
